Our 7-Step
Design Process
Whilst each project is completely unique, we follow a structured, collaborative design process to ensure each project is carefully tailored to the site, the client, and project objectives. Our 7-step consultation and design process ensures consistency from the first consultation, right through to the final build handover. Our consistent design process helps to keep things organised and make sure nothing gets missed along the way.
Step 01
Initial Meeting
During our initial meeting we’ll take the time to understand your goals and personal values. We ask probing questions to uncover insights and determine project feasibility.
Step 02
Schematic Design
Following our initial meeting and consultation, we’ll begin an initial scoping study to understand the site, constraints, and opportunities that may already exist. We work closely throughout this stage to ensure our approach aligns with your vision for the project whilst also considering the site and your budget.
Step 03
Concept Design
The concept design stage establishes the overall vision for your project. During the concept design phase we will explore design ideas, spatial relationships, and various architectural concepts that respond to your project brief, site conditions, and any planning constraints.
Step 04
Developed Design
Once the concept design is established your proposal is further refined and developed to reflect the final vision. The develop design stage of the process is about strengthening the architectural design which includes the relationship between spaces, material selection, service integration, and other key design elements.
Step 05
DA Documentation
Once the design has been finalised, we prepare the Development Application (DA) approval document and coordinate with relevant consultants to seek approval. This includes preparing architectural drawings and the required supporting documents to submit your design to the local council.
Step 06
CC Documentation
Once the Development Application (DA) has been passed, the design documentation is further detailed to prepare the project for tender.
Step 07
Construction Management
Once approvals and documentation are complete, we assist with the handover to your builder. If required, we can also help to manage the process to ensure the project is delivered as intended by working with builders, consultants, and other contractors on the project.

Studio HMD is led by Haidar Maliki, a registered Sydney architect (Registered Architect NSW 13247) with over a decade of experience in contemporary building design, duplexes, and multi-residential developments.
Haidar founded Studio HMD on the basis of delivering Sydney architecture designs that are socially, environmentally, and economically sustainable.
